NIGERIA MY COUNTRY

Nigeria is an African country. Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa with more than 170 million people living there. The president of Nigeria is President Muhammadu Buhari. Nigeria’s independence is on 1^st October 1960.Its republic is on 1^st October 1963.It was colonized by the British. Flora Shaw named Nigeria.

Nigeria has more than 250 ethnic groups,however ,there are 3 dominant tribes;Igbos ,Hausa and Yoruba which make up 18 percent,29 percent and 21 percent respectively. The major religions in Nigeria are Christianity and Islam. About half of the Yorubas are Christians and half Muslim,though many maintain traditional beliefs.

The longest and largest river in West Africa is the River Niger from where Nigeria derives her name.
